I can’t believe it has almost been a month since we were in Cuba. A group of us decided to book a tour to get out of the resort for a day and go on a Jeep Safari tour from Varadero to Matanza. Driving along country roads we had the chance to enjoy the pastel houses and colonial plazas of Matanza that are so uniquely Cuba. I found Matanza very similar to Valladolid in Mexico, a place I visited last year (see photos here.)
Welcome to Saturno Cave where the water is more than 20 metres deep in some areas. It was refreshing to swim in cold fresh water while looking at the awesome stalactites and stalagmites above.
We discovered beautiful fields full of sugar cane in the Yumuri Valley, a worthy pit stop to try some of the local treats like these small bananas and other fresh fruits. I am not a fan of sugar cane though.
I was so comfortable in this ASOS dress it was perfect changing in and out of throughout the day.
One thing I love about travelling often is meeting locals like this Senor smokin’ his cigar.
Enjoy horseback ride
Overall, a brilliant day of fun. A road trip I would highly recommend. Getting out of your hotel room and sampling the delicious food, vibrant culture and refreshing water holes is a must when you visit Varadero, Cuba.
I will be writing a post on Travel Tips for Cuba soon…but here are some if you decide to go on this tour.
1. Bring water and snacks from the hotel in a cooler bag and leave in the Jeep.
2. Underwater camera for snorkeling on the reef (bread if you want to feed the fish)
3. Towel and toilet paper for when you need the washroom as you have pay for toilet paper.
4. Bring small change for toilets and if you want to tip.
