Discovering Beijing was very interesting and extremely challenging to say the least. “Has Beijing captured my heart the way other places I have traveled to before….?” I am currently undecided.

For some reason I just could not connect with the place in any real way and I cannot give a good explanation as to why I felt this. The Temples are amazing to see and even the modern shape buildings were cool to witness but nothing overly captivating as a whole.

The absolute highlight of Beijing was undoubtedly visiting the Great Wall of China, which is why Beijing became a last minute addition to our itinerary in the first place.  It is a sheer masterpiece of ancient history that completely baffles me.  Exactly how it was built in such mountainous locations still has me guessing.  And if you are ever remotely close to Beijing,  please stop over to check it out.

Maybe I was put off with Beijing because of the level of pollution.  It’s was a little upsetting to see the effect on our amazing planet these super cities are causing.  The thick gray smoggy skies were more of a day to day way of life compared to the brilliant blue skies we luckily enough to experience on our last day in Beijing.  I was thankful for as it made this day walking around much more pleasant. The Temple of Heaven look beautiful with the clear blue sky in the background.  It was great to see how that so many people still go to the Temple of Heaven and hang out in the parks and play games during the day. It china’s ancient version of the New York’s Central Park.

I will give Beijing credit for being able to cook delicious chinese food, my local chinese takeaways have never been the same since I got home.
